About the Role:
Our client, one of the UK's leading commercial barristers’ chambers, is looking for a highly skilled and proactive Buildings and Facilities Manager to join their facilities team.
Based in central London, you will be responsible for the upkeep, safety, and compliance of several historic buildings in London. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on, varied role and is keen to make a real impact in a prestigious and growing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Buildings Management: Liaise with landlords, agents, contractors, and the council to ensure smooth operation of the premises, including overseeing security and fire safety services.
- Repairs & Maintenance: Handle minor repairs and maintenance tasks, while managing larger refurbishments, renovations, and office moves when required.
- Facilities Projects: Lead facilities-related projects in support of Chambers’ growth, including space planning and increased headcount.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Champion sustainability efforts within facilities management.
- Emergency Response: Act as the designated out-of-hours contact for facilities-related emergencies.
Contractor & Supplier Management
Oversee contractors and ensure work is carried out according to schedules, and in line with health & safety protocols.
- Implement and monitor service-level agreements (SLAs) to ensure the highest standards are met.
- Manage procurement and review costs to ensure competitive rates.
Health & Safety Leadership:
- Lead on health and safety across the business, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Manage risk assessments, incident investigations, and staff safety training.
- Develop, review, and update health & safety policies and procedures.
General Management:
- Mentor and support the Facilities Assistant, contributing to their development.
- Assist with budgeting and business continuity planning.
- Take on any additional duties as required by the Head of Facilities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in managing older buildings where occupiers are responsible for upkeep and maintenance.
- IOSH or IWFM certified, with up-to-date knowledge of facilities management best practices.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with the capability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- A calm, unflappable approach to handling pressure and emergencies.
- A hands-on, practical attitude with the willingness to undertake maintenance tasks when required.
- Ability to lift equipment up to 20kg.
