We'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and say a big thank you to you all for making this another great year for Maxwell Stephens Recruitment. As 2024 draws to a close, we're proud to reflect on a year filled with growth, collaboration, and exciting developments in the world of Facilities Management. Here’s we've taken a look back at some of the highlights of our year.

Facilities Management Networking Event

One of our favourite things about working in the Facilities Management sector is the amazing people that are a part of it. Obviously being in recruitment means that is networking has always been a big part of our ongoing success. In this ever-evolving digital world, traditional in-person networking opportunities are few and far between, yet earlier this year we were thrilled to be able host our own little gathering with our Facilities Management Networking event. This was a was a really fun and productive evening full of good vibes, great people, and promising connections. Hopefully everyone in attendance left with something valuable—whether it was a new business lead, an interesting idea, or just the excitement of meeting like-minded professionals.

We were also thrilled to have our special guest speakers in attendance - Jim Steele and Anthony Hutton. We specifically approached Jim and Anthony to speak as we wanted to provide attendees with the opportunity to benefit from their incredibly unique perspectives and backgrounds, as well as gain valuable insights into motivational strategies, ideas on how to develop emotional resilience, and a deeper understanding of how we can all take more control of personal and professional success in our lives.

The event was very well-received and we were thrilled with the response we had from some attendees who reached out to share their feelings on the evening:

"I just wanted to send a brief note to say thank you for a thought provoking evening...From my arrival I thought of the parallel world of 'resurfacing roads ' and how management teams change  but first line communities don't!"
"Jim was a wonderful speak with a simple message - push yourself harder , and fight the fear...Equally the emotional session with Anthony reminded us how fragile our world's are - and the need to look out for others and ourselves"
"I thought I should take the time to thank you for organising (and inviting me to) this evening’s event. The hospitality was generous, the venue well chosen and the speakers of an interesting and sufficiently diverse variety to both entertain and cause attendees such as myself, to reflect and consider their own vastly rich life experiences."

2024 Facilities Management Salary Survey

This year saw us publish the latest instalment of our renowned Facilities Management industry salary survey. With data collected from thousands of FM professionals, this survey provided crucial insights into the trends, salaries, and working conditions that shape our sector, highlighting some of the most significant shifts in the Facilities Management landscape.

As always, the report was very popular and very well received, with many people getting in touch to tell us how helpful they found it, whether that was employers who used it as a valuable recruitment resource, or candidates who used it to better inform their career decisions.

The report highlighted some of key trends in the FM employment market which included:

The rise of flexible working - One of the most prominent trends highlighted in the survey was the continued rise of hybrid working and the value candidates place on flexibility in their work.

Diversity - There was more positive news in regards to gender diversity within the industry. While facilities management has traditionally been male-dominated, we were pleased to report another increase in the number of women in the workforce, particularly in senior roles which is encouraging to see.

Salaries - In terms of compensation, we saw that salaries across the board were improving. As facilities managers take on more strategic responsibilities, the demand for highly skilled professionals in this field has risen. Additionally, the expansion of facilities management into areas like data analytics and smart building technologies requires specialised expertise, further justifying increased salaries as organisations recognize the critical impact that effective facilities management

Employee Power

The lasting impact of the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be ignored. It has fundamentally reshaped how we work, and perhaps more importantly, it has shifted the balance of power towards employees. Today’s workforce has higher expectations regarding flexibility, freedom, and autonomy, which companies must consider if they are to remain competitive.

Amazing Clients and Spaces

One of the most enjoyable parts of our work is getting the chance to work with truly impressive organisations and visit iconic spaces and locations. This year has been no exception - touring numerous historic landmarks and renowned estates; exploring some of the UKs top entertainment venues, and visiting the most prominent skyscrapers in London, this year has given us plenty of opportunities to experience these amazing places first-hand and fully appreciate all the fantastic work that professionals in the FM sector are doing.

Looking Ahead

As we look to 2025, we are more energized than ever to build on this year’s achievements. Whether it’s through expanding our network, delivering unparalleled recruitment solutions, or continuing to champion the FM industry, we remain dedicated to being the trusted partner of choice for both clients and candidates. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey this year—our clients, candidates, and team members. Here’s to another year of success, innovation, and growth in 2025!
