In a significant development for West London, the Old Oak & Park Royal Development Corporation has granted planning approval for a striking residential skyscraper designed by architectural firm Apt. The ambitious project will consist of two towers, reaching heights of 58 and 55 storeys, and is set to provide a total of 669 residential apartments. This mixed-use development, spearheaded by Aldau Development, will replace an earlier proposal from renowned architects Kohn Pedersen Fox for the same site, which is currently home to a Holiday Inn hotel. The new design aims to revitalise the area, enhancing the North Acton Southern Gateway cluster while contributing to the local community.
In addition to residential units, the scheme will feature a 90-key four-star hotel, along with hospitality and retail spaces on the ground floor. The vision includes inviting outdoor areas designed to foster social interactions, with canopies and seating that encourage community engagement.
Bram van der Wal, Director and Project Leader at Apt, expressed enthusiasm about the approval, stating, “We’re thrilled that the OPDC has approved the proposal, which has been carefully configured to complement North Acton’s emerging Southern Gateway cluster. We look forward to collaborating with Aldau as we advance to the next stages of this exciting project.”
Niall Watters of Aldau Development echoed this sentiment, highlighting the dedication of the design team and the unanimous consent received for the project. “The quality of this scheme is evident, and we are excited to move forward with a residential-led, mixed-use development that will stand out in a competitive Build to Rent market, bringing both hospitality and much-needed new homes to West London.”
As London continues to evolve, this towering addition promises to reshape the skyline while addressing the critical need for residential accommodation in the capital. The development is poised to become a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike, contributing to the dynamic fabric of West London living.
