You are the only person who has control over your life and so you are the only person who can take responsibility for your actions. Taking responsibility for our well-being is precisely how we are better able to be present for those around us. You should take responsibility for yourself but support other people. You should take responsibility for how you show up in the world.
If somebody gives you a cross look or a snide comment, it really is not about you. It is a reflection of their mental state at the time, so try not to take it personally. It may actually have nothing to do with you at all. Instead, try and figure out why they are acting the way they are, support them and be there for them, in the hopes of making them feel better.
We often expect many things from the world, and it expects a lot from us too. They key is to manage the world’s expectations of yourself. Living life trying to meet the expectations set by others will be very disappointing. You should focus on softening your expectations.
We are all figuring out life as we go through it, we are doing our best based on the information and resources which we have. Some things are learned much better through experience. You should aim to do your best and not be afraid of making mistakes. When you know how to do better, you will do better. You are the only person who will know when you get there.
Every time that you give your word, you are putting your honor on the line. You are suggesting that other people can place their trust in you because you value integrity and would never let them down. If you don’t live up to your word, you may end up tarnishing your credibility, you may damage your relationship and hinder your own reputation.
