Powering Global Finance: Strategic Placement of an Engineering Facilities Manager at LSEG Ensures Uninterrupted Operations and Infrastructure Resilience

Client Background

LSEG is a cornerstone of the global financial ecosystem, operating a diverse portfolio of international equity, bond, and derivatives markets. The group includes entities such as the London Stock Exchange, LCH.Clearnet, Borsa Italiana, and MTS, all of which require robust and reliable engineering systems to support their 24/7 operations. The Property Services team within LSEG is tasked with ensuring that all operational premises, including data centers, are maintained to the highest standards, enabling seamless business operations.

We were approached by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) to recruit a highly skilled Engineering Facilities Manager for their Property Services team. The role was critical in ensuring the continuity and resilience of all engineering services supporting LSEG’s core business functions, particularly within their headquarters in Paternoster Square, London. Given the significance of the LSEG in the global financial community, the role required a candidate with a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and an ability to navigate the complexities of managing mission-critical infrastructure.

The Challenge

The role of Engineering Facilities Manager demanded an individual with a deep understanding of high voltage (HV) networks, HVAC systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS). The candidate needed to be technically adept, capable of managing large-scale capital projects in a live 24/7 environment, and possess the leadership skills to supervise and mentor the incumbent maintenance contractors.

Furthermore, the role required a proactive approach to financial management, ensuring all engineering and utility budgets were effectively controlled and optimized. Given the critical nature of LSEG’s operations, the candidate also needed to have a strong grasp of health and safety regulations, as well as the ability to navigate the complexities of statutory building and environmental legislation.

Recruitment Process & Outcome

We undertook a comprehensive search strategy, leveraging our extensive network and industry knowledge to identify candidates with the requisite experience in managing mission-critical facilities. The ideal candidate needed to demonstrate a proven track record in overseeing engineering services within similarly complex environments, such as data centers or financial institutions.

The selection process involved a rigorous assessment of technical skills, particularly in HV networks and HVAC systems, as well as a thorough evaluation of the candidates’ leadership capabilities. We also prioritised candidates who exhibited strong interpersonal skills, given the customer-facing nature of the role and the need for effective collaboration with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

After a thorough search and selection process, we successfully placed a highly qualified Engineering Facilities Manager with LSEG. The appointed candidate brought significant experience in managing mission-critical environments and demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical skills, aligning perfectly with the requirements of the role.

The new Engineering Facilities Manager has since taken charge of ensuring the continuity of all engineering services within LSEG’s property portfolio, maintaining a safe and secure operating environment for all building occupants. The candidate has also effectively managed large-scale capital projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and without compromising the uptime of LSEG’s critical infrastructure.
